In the matter of a few clutch seconds, Levance Fields grabbed victory by the throat and shepherded his team into the first Elite Eight of the Jamie Dixon Era.
First Fields drained an improbable go-ahead 3-pointer over Dante Jackson from the top of the arc that swished through the net and gave No. 1 Pittsburgh a one-point lead over No. 4 Xavier at TD Banknorth Garden. Soon, the Brooklyn native was jumping up and down and thrusting his fists into the air at midcourt. "I did a little in and out move which created just enough space," Fields said after his team edged Xavier 60-55 to advance to an Elite Eight showdown in the East Regional with either No. 3 Villanova. "I got him on his heels a little bit. Once I got the separation, I took the shot, and I had all the confidence in the world."
