7 Big East Teams in NCAA Tournament
Mar 16 2009, 12:02 AM EDT
For the first time in history, three teams from a single conference were awarded No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. The 2009 Big East Conference teams are loaded and ready.Louisville (28-5), the Big East regular season and newly crowned tournament champion, is the overall No. 1 seed and was placed in the Midwest Region opposite No. 2 Michigan State (26-6). Pittsburgh (28-4) is No. 1 in the East and is set up to meet No. 2 Duke (28-6) in the Regional final. UConn (27-4) is the No. 1 in the West and could face No. 2 Memphis (31-3) in perhaps the most intriguing Regional final. North Carolina (28-4) of the ACC is the other top seed - No. 3 overall -- and will head to the South, where it could meet No. 2 Oklahoma (27-5) or No. 3 Syracuse (26-9). Louisville and UConn could potentially meet in one national semifinal April 4 in Detroit, while Pitt and North Carolina could square off in the other. Seven Big East teams made the Big Dance, including, as expected, Marquette, Villanova, West Virginia and tournament runner-up Syracuse. Providence, while owns a victory over then-No. 1 Pitt, was left out of the 65-team field and will head to the NIT instead. Go Big East! Who are you rooting for? Do you find this valuable? |
